A Unique Masterpiece: The 3D Lexan Cabinet at LSU Stadium

When it comes to custom cabinetry, few projects push the boundaries of engineering and design like the one we recently completed for Gordon McKernon at LSU’s exclusive stadium suites. This extraordinary cabinet, built for a private suite inside the iconic Tiger Stadium, is not only a feat of craftsmanship but also a tribute to one of LSU’s most recognizable symbols—Mike the Tiger.
A Challenge in Engineering and Design:
At the heart of this project was the need to combine aesthetic beauty with functional stability. The cabinet was designed to hold four 1-inch layers of Lexan, precision cut into a detailed 3D outline of Mike the Tiger, the beloved mascot of LSU. The Lexan panels, known for their exceptional strength and clarity, needed to be perfectly aligned to ensure that the intricate design of Mike’s face would come to life in three dimensions. However, Lexan, despite its toughness, is a material that requires a unique approach when layered in such an intricate design, especially when stability is key.
To ensure the structural integrity of the cabinet, we engineered an internal framework like no other. The internal supports were meticulously calculated and reinforced to handle the weight and dimensional complexity of the layered Lexan, all while ensuring the final piece would be both visually striking and durable. This was no easy task, but our team’s attention to detail and years of expertise allowed us to bring this ambitious vision to life.

Design Inspiration and Creative Direction:
The inspiration for this one-of-a-kind piece came from a stunning photograph captured by André Alcock, which provided the foundation for the cabinet’s design. The image, which beautifully captured the essence of Mike the Tiger, was then transformed into a highly detailed 3D model through advanced CAD software. The challenge was not just to create a static image, but to bring the spirit and energy of Mike into a dynamic and dimensional representation.
Rachel Alcock, the creative mind behind the project’s direction, played a pivotal role in refining the vision and ensuring the design was both innovative and functional. Under her guidance, the 3D modeling process became an art form in itself—each cut, each angle, and each curve was carefully thought out to create the ultimate visual experience.
A Tribute to LSU and Its Fans:
Installed in a private LSU suite inside Tiger Stadium, this cabinet is more than just a piece of furniture—it’s a tribute to LSU’s legacy, spirit, and the unrelenting passion of its fans. Designed specifically for Gordon McKernon, this cabinet serves as a personal and meaningful centerpiece for his suite, bringing the iconic Mike the Tiger to life in an entirely new way. It stands as a proud symbol of LSU’s traditions and commitment to excellence.
The 3D Lexan cabinet is truly one of a kind. Its precision, creativity, and functionality come together to create a piece that will be appreciated by LSU fans and visitors for years to come. This project exemplifies what we do best—pushing the limits of design and engineering to craft something truly unique and lasting.
Whether in the context of a suite inside a stadium or as part of a personal collection, this cabinet represents the intersection of art, engineering, and LSU pride, making it an unforgettable creation. It is, without question, one of the most unique and intricate cabinets we’ve ever built.
This piece truly stands out as an example of how custom cabinetry can combine artistry and precision to create something unforgettable, and we’re proud to have been part of this incredible project.
